Searching the In-Between

There are seasons when the ground beneath us shifts, and we find ourselves caught between what has ended and what hasn't yet begun. It feels like searching in the dark for a door that won't open, waiting for a light that lingers just beyond the horizon.

I find that the in-between holds both longing and ache. But usually in those in-betweens, the questions stir: Where do I go from here? How do I begin again when I don’t yet know the shape of what is next?

But still, the days keep moving forward.

Christ meets us here—not only in the clarity of arrival, not only in the sweetness of new beginnings, but in the wilderness of searching, in the patience of waiting, in the tension of endings that feel unfinished. He is the steady presence when we can't see what’s ahead.

The Scripture reminds us that “the Lord is good to those who wait for Him, to the soul who seeks Him” (Lamentations 3:25). I often have to remind myself that seeking isn't wasted, though it may feel empty. Waiting isn't idleness, though it may feel like standing still. Both are places where I am being shaped, drawn deeper into trust, invited to cling to Him rather than to my own certainties.

And apart from Christ, is anything really certain?

And so, the way forward isn't always about fixing or rushing, but about abiding—resting in His presence, even when the answers remain hidden. It's in the slow practice of the day-to-day faith, the daily choosing to keep our eyes on Christ, that we find strength for the next step.

We may not yet know what lies ahead. But in the waiting and the searching, in the beginnings and the endings, we are not alone. Christ Himself is the way.

A Prayer for the In-Between

Lord,
help me to wait with patience,
to seek You when I cannot see the path ahead.
Hold me steady in the endings,
give me courage for the beginnings,
and help me to trust that You have gone before me,
are with me always
in every uncertain step.
Amen.

No. 14 When I forget I am loved
It happened the other morning while I was scrolling through the news with my tea favorite Early Grey beside me. Another headline, another moment of questioning. The world felt unsteady again. I closed the screen, but the unease stayed. It wasn’t only fear about what might happen next; it was the quieter fear underneath—the question of whether I am really known and loved in a world that feels th...
No. 13 Weaving Beauty & Rest into Everyday
For a long time, I treated beauty and rest as luxuries. They felt like something I could only reach for once the real work was finished. But the work was never finished. There was always one more thing waiting, and the days slipped by in a blur of tasks and striving. It took a season of exhaustion for me to see it differently. I remember feeling worn thin, stretched to the edges of myself, real...
The Overlap of Seasons
I feel the seasons shifting again. Not only in the weather (Texas doesn't really have changing seasons), but in the shape of life. We've closed our house in Provence for a short season, knowing I’ll return in a few months. The shutters drawn, the garden stilled, the rooms waiting. Yet in my heart, Provence keeps it's rhythm—the markets buzzing, the stone walls glowing gold in the afternoon light...
